Your own copy is the whole of Farboard, this page and a relay, on your own free Cloudflare account at an address of your own. People you invite need nothing. You do this once.
It lets you start games on your copy. Keep it private; the people you invite never need it.
Sign in to Cloudflare and GitHub, or create free accounts, when asked. When
Cloudflare asks for OWNER_KEY, paste the key from step 1.
Paste the address Cloudflare gives you, for example
farboard.yourname.workers.dev. Your key goes with you.
The owner key lets you start games on a relay you run: always on a private relay, and past the daily limit on a public one.
Scan this with your other phone or computer to copy these settings over. It contains your owner key, so do not show it to anyone else.
Your opponent scans this with their phone's camera, or opens the link in any browser. They do not need an account.
Whoever opens this link first takes the empty seat, so send it only to your opponent.
